I bought Ben home with me June 2003. I was going out to buy a dress but went to look at a litter of 8 chunky black puppies first. What can I say ... the dress went out of the window and home came my boy. I was and still am totally smitten with him. Everybody who meets him loves the big fellow and nobody more than ME. Out of the 8 puppies there were 3 boys to choose from. People always say that a puppy chooses you and I also believe this. I picked up the 2 other boys first and they both wriggled to get down. Then I picked up Ben and he just cuddled up to me licking my chin. I thought this is the boy for me!
Ben has a beautiful soft velvet like coat and is of a large build. Although heavy and cumbersome at times Ben has a heart of gold and loves everyone. He would slobber you to death given half the chance.
Ben loves to play with his ball down the fields although has never seemed to understand that he needs to bring it back and will often take it off to lie down and chew it. He also loves to have a swim as do all labs. He is so funny as you can hear him snorting as he swims.
As you will notice Ben is a pet only as I was hoping to mate him with Jess but his hip score result was to high so he has been castrated. This is better for him as when the girls were in season it used to drive him mad - poor old boy.
He loves his mate Jess and certainly has a soft spot for his buddy Holly - although he wouldn't admit to it. He likes to play with the girls but I think sometimes he finds them a bit too much.
I am sure I will never get another boy like Ben. He is a complete doser. He is usually laid on his back snoring on the sofa when at home. On the way back from our walks he is off his lead as he just plods - infact I have to gee him up most days on the way home - laid back or what??
Ben really is a one in a million dog. He is not only my pet but also one of the best friends I could ask for. He has been there when I have been happy and sad - he is a good listener - good job dogs can't talk as he could tell you a few stories!!
